A large number of people are facing problem in getting their vehicles released from the office of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) due to authority’s secretary, who is currently in Lahore on an official visit.
During last couple of days, RTA impounded large number of vehicles including private vehicles, taxis and other public transport buses and vans over various violations. ‘The News’ learnt that when the owners of these vehicles visited the Office of RTA Secretary Asad Raza Kazmi after the submission of their fines in banks, they were informed by the office staff that their vehicles will not be released before Monday because the secretary was out of the city.
Taking to ‘The News’ a number of motorists said that it was unfair that despite clearing their fines their vehicles will remain in the custody of the RTA till next week. Muhammad Nawaz, a taxi driver said: “I have deposited the fine in the bank, but when I returned here the concerned staff told me that RTA secretary is out of city, so it is not possible for them to release the vehicle and I will have to come again on Monday.”
When contacted RTA Secretary Rawalpindi, Asad Raza Kazmi said, “Currently I am in Lahore, as I was summoned by Regional Transport Authority Punjab secretary on Thursday for a meeting with transporters.” He said the authority only impounds vehicles when someone fails to show any kind documentary proof of vehicle’s ownership.
